How to set personal goals
How to April 2nd, 2007
Setting up personal goals are of huge importance for success in college as well as in general. Why? Because as humans we need explicit guidelines or else we might find ourselves lost in the wilderness of our own thoughts.
You have to ask your self why are you doing what you’re doing right now, are you proud of it and think it has a noble pursuit into it or is it strictly related to material gains? (such as money?) We have to learn why, how and when to do things.
Here is where setting goals step in, whether these goals are on a small scale such as setting a goal of losing such an amount of weight each month or on a larger scale such as what to do with your life. That’s why I urge to plan right here and now what you want to do, it’s time to set some goals! No more procrastination, this is how to do it:
1. Ponder, think about your aspirations and your life. Never underestimate the power of just reflecting over life!
Sit down and just reflect over your life, where is it taking you and what do you have to offer? We are all going to die in a few years from now, what makes you want live and continue striving. For me it’s my islamic faith… (Please share by commenting

If you come up with a positive and good reason, then move on to (3) if not then go back to (1). Be honest with yourself.
Now time to set up the actual steps you need to take. Better grab a pen and notebook and start dividing your plan into years, month and finally days. Always know what you are striving for or else you may never achieve your goals!

How we can study seriously if we have a periodical exam in school…Cause i’m already a first year…it’s a beginning of a new life…and how can we discipline ourselves?

Light Yagami, thank you for the comment. The best way to discipline yourself is -in my opinion- by writing down your goals on a piece of paper. Just think of it for a moment, why should you dicipline yourself to learn something you chose yourself, right?
I believe that there is only 1 reason why we sometimes need to dicipline ourselves and that is; we forget why we were studying in the first place!
So in short, Yagami: “Patience may taste very bad but it’s result is very sweet”. Have a nice day!
