The sword is mightier than the pen
Geeky March 13th, 2007The sword is mightier than the pen, you want empirical proof? Here is the proof:
First let us consider the different values: (Click here to subscribe to this blog)
v (velocity) = 62 m/s
m1 (The mass of the pen) = 0.050 kg (Yes, I am using kilos, here is why)
m2 (The mass of the sword) = 2.0 kg
Wk1 (kinetic energy - pen) –> (mv^2)/2 = 96.1 J
Wk2 (kinetic energy - sword) –> (mv^2)/2 = 3844 J
4x bloodier!
Apart from the higher level of energy, the shape of the sword is designed to cut through flesh. Let me illustrate this with a comprehensive computer model, notice the complexity of the image:
Now compare this empirically made model with that of a sword:

Well it depends on how you interpret the proverb, pen could infact be mightier than the sword when it comes to convincing people, recording history(how much great battles won by the sword were written in history by the pen) and ofcourse teaching soldiers how to use their swords.
